“Contribute to a better understanding of how succeeding in

the family business fits into the personal life plans of NextGens.”
3 reasons why you should participate:
By sharing how a potential family business succession fits (or doesn’t fit) into your personal life plans, you help us develop better strategies for succession planning that truly align the family business with the lives and ambitions of the next generation.
By taking part, you help highlight how important personal life goals are in family business succession. Even if you’re uncertain or don’t plan to join the family business, your perspective is still essential and can make a real impact.
The long-term success of family businesses often depends on the NextGen’s willingness to get involved. By participating, you help us uncover ways family businesses can evolve and align with the personal life preferences and goals of NextGen members, ensuring a stronger future for both.
Last but not least: We place significant importance on confidentiality and secure data use!
Your responses are confidential and anonymous and only used for research purposes.
Are you over 18 years and does your family own a business? We’d love to hear from you! No matter whether or not you are planning to join the family business, or still figuring things out, your perspective as a NextGen member matters to us. Your responses will be kept completely confidential and anonymous. You can find more information about data privacy here.

Our research dives into a side of family businesses that doesn’t get enough attention: the personal life plans of the next generation.
Many young people from family businesses are not just potential successors; they are also individuals with their own dreams and goals. We are exploring how NextGens balance these two worlds over time – family expectations and personal ambitions. By looking at NextGens’ life journeys, we aim to uncover the strategies that help NextGens navigate the sometimes complex interplay between family expectations to succeed in the business and building their own path.
All the insights from our research will be shared in a report, which participants can opt to receive once they have completed the survey.
We follow a strict ethical and anonymous approach in our survey study. Participating in the survey is possible without indicating your name and without registration. Your responses are thus anonymous and cannot be traced back to you. We comply with the highest standards of data protection and confidentiality in our survey study. The study has no external funding. The data is used for research purposes only and is not shared with third parties.
The academic lead of the study is with Professor Dr. Christine Scheef and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Mateja Andric. Both are highly experienced researchers in family business and life courses, respectively. Our team is completed with the invaluable support and insights from research assistant Thibault Huber. You are welcome to contact any of us with questions about our research and survey study.
